Computer Science for ELA Teachers

Why CS in ELA?

Schools and districts across the country are looking for new ways to introduce computer science (CS) to students and teachers. Current STEM-based approaches work for some learners, but not all.

ELA is the key.

You see, at its core CS isn't about science, technology, engineering and math. Fundamentally, CS is about language, logic, and creativity. By embedding CS into core ELA practices, schools can introduce a whole new generation of young people to the power of computationality.

Which is exactly what our future needs.

What Teachers Learn

Dr. Tom Liam Lynch will help participants feel...

in how computer science (CS) in K-12 schools complements the goals of middle and high school ELA teachers, and can counteract Covid-19 learning loss

to use CS activities and/or assignments right away in their own classrooms, customized to existing teachers' curricular plans and goals

by hands-on immersive activities using teaching methods adapted from computer science and mathematics in secondary ELA and English classrooms

for the rest of the school year via an online community with other ELA and English teachers exploring CS, facilitated by Dr. Lynch
